La National Gallery de Londres propose pour la première fois une exposition majeure qui rassemble des exemples exceptionnels de la photographie ancienne et contemporaine.
Des chefs-d'oeuvre de la peinture revisités et réinterprétés par des grands noms de la photographie.
Les travaux incluront celles de grands photographes comme Martin Parr, Sam Taylor-Wood, Craigie Horsfield, Julia Margaret Cameron, Richard Billingham ou Gustave Le Gray, qui tracent leurs sources de retour au 19ème siècle la photographie ou, dans certains cas, les traditions d'art encore plus anciennes historiques.
L'expo retrace également le développement de la photographie tels que le portrait, le paysage et sociale, et comprend des œuvres du Centre Wilson pour la photographie et des prêts de la Tate, le Victoria and Albert Museum et le National Media Museum à Bradford et aussi directement à partir des artistes eux-mêmes.
Un audio guide, retraçant l'influence et l'inspiration de siècles de traditions des beaux-arts sur la photographie est également disponible au guichet du musée.

Drawing attention to one particular and rich strand of photography’s history – that of the influence and inspiration of historical painting – the exhibition features pictures by the greatest British and French photographers alongside work by an international array of contemporary artists. It includes new photography and video specially commissioned for the exhibition and on public display for the first time, plus works rarely seen in the UK.
Exceptionally, three ‘interventions’ of contemporary photographs by Richard Billingham, Craigie Horsfield and Richard Learoyd will be displayed within the Gallery’s collection, juxtaposed with great 19th-century paintings by Constable, Degas and Ingres.
The show includes almost 90 photographs alongside selected paintings from the National Gallery’s collection. Key photographs will come from the Wilson Centre for Photography, Tate, Victoria and Albert Museum, National Media Museum in Bradford, Fundació La Caixa in Spain, and direct from the photographers themselves.
